My Little Corner of the Web

The Moleskin is the personal web site of Kelsey Ruger and is a collection of creative work, thoughts and lessons.

Kelsey Ruger The Long Version

Kelsey Ruger is an accomplished software architect, designer and information architect who has lent his expertise to high profile Internet projects at Prodigy and SBC as well as a number of start-ups. Kelsey is passionate about creating a world where technology is transparent, simple and universally accessible to all people regardless of ability. With both strong development and design skills, Kelsey brings a unique creative perspective to a variety of design and software architecture activities.

Kelsey is currently the Director of Technology and Creative Services for Houston based Pop Labs where he is responsible for the company’s product development and creative services teams.

Prior to joining Webxites, Kelsey was one of the youngest directors in the SBC Telecommunications family of companies, where he led the client development efforts for SBC
Prodigy and SBC Internet. As SBC’s development lead he was vital in designing, planning and implementing the project between SBC, Yahoo! and Prodigy that resulted in the release of the first versions of SBC Yahoo! Dial and DSL packages. These kits are currently being used by SBC and Yahoo customers across the United States.

Additionally, Kelsey was a key technology lead in designing, developing and planning the architecture of Prodigy 7.0 prior to SBC’s acquisition of Prodigy in 2001, which out ranked competitors such as MSN and AOL in reviews by Forrester Research.

Despite his extensive experience with client software, Kelsey’s first love is still the Web. Today, he spends a great deal of his free time teaching and writing about usability, accessibility, Web Standards and emerging technology. Most recently Kelsey participated as a panelist for the SXSW interactive festival, and his blog The Moleskin (www.themoleskin.com) was nominated for best blog.

He is a board member, trainer and judge for Knowbility’s AIR Houston, and has authored or been features in articles in Network World magazine, The Austin Chronicle and Accessible Content magazine. Kelsey holds a B.B.A in MIS from the University of Houston.
