How Great Design Will Make People Love Your Company
| Brunner & Emery | ISBN: 978-0137142446 | Design |
Do You Matter is a different type of marketing book because it asks us to look at the role of design in a very different way. Many companies are beginning to see the competitive advantages that outstanding design can provide. The problem that many run into seriously roadblocks when figuring out exactly how to go about becoming design focused. Do You Matter attempts to help you gain control of the future by giving us reasons why we should not only embrace design but also why we should make it an integral part of everything the company does. Some of the take-aways from the book include
- Design is important enough to be approached as a process instead of an event.
- It’s not just about the features or how the product looks, it about the experience.
- Consumers are drawn to businesses that are design focused.
- It doesn’t matter how much you perfect and measure your process if you are solving the wrong problem.
- You can design a great object once, but if you want lasting appeal you have to get below the surface.
My Take On The Book
Overall the book is a very good resource for companies developing new products or reviving old products that need new life. There are action items that every company can act on. I have to admit that it initially took me a while to warm up to Do You Matter. Even as an Apple fan I felt like the Apple praise in the book was a bit much. While the authors did use Apple as an example often throughout the book they still managed to cover a lot of real business issues that companies face today.
